Sports Massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity.

Sports Massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma.

The application of Sports Massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

As a physiotherapist I shell conduct a client assessment using a holistic approach; this will include an initial discussion of the client's medical history along with work and lifestyle.

A physical assessment will be conducted looking at joints mobility, muscle symmetry, test of muscle strength and stability.

A treatment plan will be devised using a range of techniques which could include mobilisation of the joints, pressure point Nuro-Muscular Techniques (NMT) soft tissues massage, stretching of the muscle active or passive.

A exercise programme will be proscribed to enable the client to actively rehabilitate themselves thus preventing further injury.
